How times have changed for the Houston Texans

3 Years Of Darkness For The Houston Texans

For 3 years, things seemed to be getting worse and worse; firing back to back to back coaches from 2020-23, after continually dismal performances, and subsequently missing out on the 3rd overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft due to the Laremy Tunsil trade back in 2019.

However, after the selection of seemingly future superstar quarterback, CJ Stroud, with the 2nd overall pick back in April 2023, and the hiring of almost-Coach of the Year, DeMeco Ryans, fortunes have certainly swung in favor of Texas’ newest pro football franchise.

The Texans Already Off To A Strong Start In 2024

The Texans made numerous upgrades on what was already a fairly stout defense: Stud edge rusher, Danielle Hunter, consistently high-performing, veteran defensive lineman, Denico Autry and Foley Fatukasi, and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, who reunites with Ryans after their shared time together at the San Francisco 49ers, were all well regarded moves that added legitimate talent to a contending team.

After trading for the Buffalo Bills’ star wide receiver, Stefon Diggs, it is clear that the Houston Texans are all in for 2024, evidently aiming to make use of Stroud’s cheap rookie years to max out the ability of the other positional groups before his likely enormous payday arrives.

And now, we are getting our first glimpses of Stroud and new number 1 receiver, Diggs, in action together at OTAs, glimpses that will no doubt get Houston fans very excited for the ensuing season, per Jordan Schultz.

CJ Stroud And Stefon Diggs The Scariest QB – WR Tandem In The NFL?

Alongside Cincinnati Bengals college-turned-pro pair, Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase, the Houston Texans’ combination of CJ Stroud and Stefon Diggs may well be the best in the league.

Although the duos of Dak Prescott & CeeDee Lamb, and Tua Tagovailoa & Tyreek Hill have both been prolific in the regular season over the past couple of years, there are still significant questions to be raised about their QBs’ ability to shine in the playoffs.

Whilst other, similarly competitive, upper echelon quarterbacks like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, do not have a true number 1 wide receiver on their teams as of now.

Regardless of whether Stroud and Diggs are 1 or 2 or 3, Houston fans should be, and undoubtedly will be pumped for the start of the 2024 season, where the Texans will attempt to win back-to-back AFC South titles to officially usher in the start of a new era for them.
