Jason Kelce dishes on new role with ESPN’s Monday Night Football after NFL retirement

After his retirement from the NFL, Jason Kelce will be sticking around the league, but on the media side rather than on the field. As the newest member of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” pregame show, Kelce is set to parlay his successful playing career into what he hopes to be an equally successful media career.

On the New Heights Podcast with his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Jason fielded some Monday Night Football-related questions from his younger sibling, including his required attire.

“It’s going to be a good time. We’re going to be at the games traveling around. I still don’t know what I’m wearing, so I guess we’ll find out,” Kelce said. “I don’t mind wearing a suit if that’s what it calls. I think there’s a time to be relaxed and, you know, be off the cuff, but there’s also a time, I think, to be a little bit more buttoned up. Yeah, we’ll see. We haven’t really talked too much about it.

Travis also asked Jason if he could remain unbiased even when he talks about the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, the latter of whom Jason spent his entire 13-year career with.

“I will, of course, be biased in who I’m rooting for, but in my analysis, I think I’ll definitely be able to be unbiased,” Kelce said. “I think I kind of always am, even when I was a player, I was always trying to give my honest perspective and point of view, and I don’t think that changes now. I’m just going to have more opportunities to voice that.”

Jason Kelce: Star on and off of the field

Jason Kelce has always been quite the character, but his personality really shined in the last few seasons of his career. Since launching “New Heights” with his brother, whose transformed into an even bigger star as a result of his relationship with singer Taylor Swift, Jason has appeared on “Saturday Night Live,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” and at WrestleMania XL in Philadelphia. Additionally, Amazon produced a documentary about Jason and his family, “Kelce,” which debuted in September 2023, and he and his Philadelphia Eagles teammates Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson have created two popular Christmas albums together.

While already off to a successful start, Kelce’s media exploits will be hard to match the success he experienced in the NFL. During his 13 seasons with the Eagles, Kelce, a sixth-round draft pick in 2011, earned six first-team All-Pro selections and seven Pro Bowl selections. And in his greatest career triumph, Kelce helped the Eagles win its first and, to date, only Super Bowl in February 2018.

In the last few seasons of his career, Kelce publicly and privately considered retirement but ultimately returned in hopes of capturing another Super Bowl with the Eagles. He was particularly close to doing so in February 2023, when his and Travis’ teams met in Super Bowl LVII. Unfortunately for Jason, his younger brother and the Chiefs won the game 38-35.

After months of speculation, Jason announced his retirement from the NFL on March 4, 2024, in an emotional press conference that his family attended.
