The Los Angeles Dodgers put together a dominant performance in their Dodger Stadium opener, with Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman leading the lineup in a 7-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

The combined effort backed a stellar performance from Tyler Glasnow, who held the Cardinals to just one run and had five strikeouts over six innings. Glasnow allowed just two hits, both of which were to Paul Goldschmidt, with one being a solo homer.

Prior to giving up the home run, Glasnow had been staked a 5-0 lead behind early Dodgers offense. After Betts led off the bottom of the first with a walK, Ohtani doubled to move him into scoring position. However, Ohtani was caught between second and third base for the first out of the inning.

It arguably cost the Dodgers a run as Freddie Freeman hit an RBI single. Max Muncy’s sacrifice fly then extended their lead to 2-0.

Miles Mikolas, who was critical of the Dodgers’ payroll and wanted to disprove its merit, ran into more trouble in the third inning.

Betts again was at the center of it, this time hitting his second home run of the season. Mikolas then walked before surrendering a two-run homer to Freeman.

Teoscar Hernández’s double in the sixth inning set the table for an RBI single from James Outman, and Muncy’s base hit in the seventh put the Dodgers up 7-1.

Ryan Yarbrough followed Glasnow’s outing with a three-inning save to preserve the Dodgers bullpen for the remainder of the four-game series.

Dodgers MVP candidates

Former MVP winners Betts, Ohtani and Freeman combined to go 5-for-11 with six runs scored, four RBI and four walks.
