Bears Named Potential Destination For Former Pro Bowl QB
Andrew Nelles / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK

Caleb Williams will be the Chicago Bears‘ starting quarterback in Week 1. Barring injuries or any other unforeseen circumstances, that is all but a guarantee.

But do the Bears really feel comfortable with Tyson Bagent serving as his backup?

Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon certainly doesn’t, which is why he feels that Ryan Tannehill would make perfect sense for Chicago as a free-agent signing.

Oddly enough, Tannehill is still out there in spite of representing a very capable backup option.

Perhaps he is asking for too much money? Or maybe he wants the chance to start somewhere?

Whatever the case may be, Tannehill is available, and the Bears absolutely present a very logical fit for the veteran signal-caller.

Tannehill spent the previous five seasons with the Tennessee Titans and put together a couple of very impressive campaigns in 2019 and 2020, making the Pro Bowl in the former year.

That season, Tannehill played in 12 games with 10 starts (he replaced Marcus Mariota midway through year) and threw for 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 70.3 percent of his passes and posting a league-high passer rating of 117.5.

Then, in 2020, Tannehill totaled 3,819 yards, 33 touchdowns and seven picks while completing 65.5 percent of his throws and registering a 106.5 passer rating.

He has certainly declined since then, and most recently, the 35-year-old threw for 1,616 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions across 10 appearances and eight starts in 2023.

However, it seems hard to imagine that Tannehill wouldn’t be a better reserve than Bagent and could also serve as a mentor to Williams in his rookie campaign.

We’ll see if the Bears try to make a move for Tannehill in the coming weeks.
